About Amy Carlson
Amy Carlson, with her blonde hair and blue eyes, stands at 5'6" with an average build and measurements of 36–27–37. Born in Glen Ellyn, Illinois, she spent much of her early life in the Chicago area, but a stretch in junior high took her family to the Middle East, where her parents taught at the American School. She has three siblings: sisters Betsy and Lori, and brother Joe. The family camped in every state except Alaska, and Amy backpacked across Europe both with them and on her own. In 1994, after the war, she went to Rwanda to aid relief efforts.
Amy's path to acting began early. She performed in school productions, won writing contests, and in high school was a promising athlete, placing in the first ever 3200 meter relay in Illinois girls track. A college injury turned her back to the theater, leading to roles in Lanford Wilson's "Fifth of July" and directing Wallace Shawn's "Aunt Dan and Lemon." She graduated cum laude from Knox College with a B.A. in East Asian history and a concentration in Theater. After moving to Chicago, she studied improv at the Improv Olympic and acting at The Actor's Center. A contract on the soap opera Another World soon brought her to New York City.
Her television roles have often been strong women: Alex Taylor on Third Watch, Maggie Pistone on Falcone, Katie Owen in Peacemakers, and Linda Reagan on Blue Bloods. She earned a Daytime Emmy nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress. Today Amy lives in New York City with her husband Syd Butler, bassist of Les Savy Fav, and is part-owner of the independent label Frenchkiss Records. She continues to write and seek out diverse roles in film.
