About Amanda Miguel
Amanda Miguel, born Amanda Antonia Miguel Samso on 1 June 1956 in Gaiman, Chubut, Argentina, is an Argentine-born Mexican singer-songwriter, pianist, and businesswoman. With a career spanning over four decades, she has released 12 studio albums and sold more than 15 million copies worldwide, earning multiple gold and platinum certifications.
At 17, she met Diego Verdaguer, five years her senior, and joined his musical group Mediterráneo. After success in Los Angeles, a Univision executive discovered her, and she launched a solo career. Her debut album, El Sonido Vol. 1 (1981), introduced a different sound and became a success. Hits like "Él Me Mintió" and "Mi Buen Corazón" became staples on Los Angeles radio. After her daughter Ana Victoria was born, she paused her career for motherhood.
She returned in 1987 with El Pecado, followed by El Rostro del Amor (1989), whose title song greeted Pope John Paul II during his Mexico visit. Her sixth album, Rompecorazones, explored ranchera music under Federico Méndez. In 1996, she recorded Amame una vez más in Italy, earning a Lo Nuestro Award nomination for Pop Song of the Year. Later albums include 5 Dias (1999) and Piedra de Afilar (2005), which featured a duet with Diego. She remained married to Verdaguer until his death on January 28, 2022, and they lived in Los Angeles.
