Amanda Horan Kennedy

American actress Amanda Horan Kennedy was born on March 5, 1957, in Leawood, Kansas. She began her career in front of the camera as a teenager, modeling for Hallmark Cards at 14 and later for local department stores. A local Calvin Klein show suggested she move to New York, but her parents insisted she go to college first. While studying Fine Arts and Journalism at Southern Methodist University, she modeled in Dallas, winning the Miss Dallas and Miss Texas titles before leaving for Los Angeles.

In Hollywood, she landed roles in television series like Cheers, Remington Steele, and Hart to Hart, and appeared in six films, including My Favorite Year. She worked steadily for 12 years, from 1980 to 1992. But after more than a decade in acting, she decided to change paths. Just after her 31st birthday, she returned to college, earned a BA in Psychology, and later a Master's in Clinical Psychology. She became a psychologist, noting, "In acting, you observe people and emulate them when you play a character. In psychology, you study people and work with them to improve their lives."
