Biography
About Alma Rubens
Alma Rubens, born Alma Genevieve Reubens in San Francisco, California, was a natural beauty with a penchant for acting from an early age. She enjoyed fantasy play acting as a young girl, and by the time she was 19, she had become a full-fledged star. Her break came in 1916 with the film "Reggie Mixes In," followed by six more films that year. She won critical acclaim for her role in "The Half-Breed" (1916) and starred in the box-office hit "The Firefly of Tough Luck" (1917).
Throughout the late 1910s and early 1920s, Alma was a busy actress with role after role, achieving hit after hit. In 1924, she performed magnificently as Mildred Gower in "The Price She Paid." However, after a busy 1925, she suddenly found it difficult to obtain work. It wasn't because her star had dimmed; it was because of her addiction to heroin. The money she made dwindled away as she sought the next high. She was in and out of mental asylums, but the treatments didn't help much, as she continued dabbling in drugs.
Her final two films were released in 1929: "Show Boat" and "She Goes to War." Weakened by her habit, Alma died in Los Angeles in 1931 of pneumonia, less than a month before her 34th birthday. She was a straight, Caucasian American actress with natural breasts. She married three times: to Franklyn Farnum in 1918 (divorced), Daniel Carson Goodman in 1923 (divorced), and Ricardo Cortez in 1926 (her death). Her career spanned 14 years, from 1915 to 1929.
