Biography

About Alex Scott

Edited by the community

Alex Scott first kicked a football at age eight, and by 1992 she was already in the game, a career that would span 34 years. Born in London on 14 October 1984, she grew up to become one of England's most recognisable footballers, playing mostly as a right-back. Her English nationality and mixed-race background are part of a story that took her from local pitches to international stadiums.

Scott's club career is marked by three separate spells with Arsenal, with a season at Birmingham City in 2004-05 and three years in America's WPS with Boston Breakers in between. She scored the winning goal in the 2007 UEFA Women's Cup Final, a defining moment. On the international stage, she earned 140 caps for England and represented Great Britain at the 2012 Olympics. In 2019, she was inducted into the English Football Hall of Fame, a fitting honour for a player of her calibre.

After retiring from playing, Scott moved into broadcasting. She is a pundit for BBC Sport and Sky Sports, covering the Premier League and major tournaments, including the 2018 FIFA World Cup and the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup. In October 2023, she won The Sport Award at the Virgin Atlantic Attitude Awards. At 41, with 2.5 million Instagram followers, she remains a prominent voice in sport. Her brown hair and brown eyes are as recognisable as her insightful analysis. Bisexual and proudly herself, she is a trailblazer both on and off the pitch.
