Biography
About Adriana De Oliveira
Adriana De Oliveira was a model and supermodel who rose to fame in Brazil in the late 1980s. Born in Santo André, Sao Paulo, Brazil, she began her career at fifteen after winning a mannequin course at a neighborhood party. Although initially unexcited about the prospect, she was encouraged by her brother and, a year later, sought out a modeling agency and took her first unpretentious photos. Hired by L'equipe Agence, she started doing small fashion shows and catalogs, including a Christmas campaign for Mesbla stores and the cover of Carícia magazine.
By the age of eighteen, Adriana had the profile of a photographic and catwalk model, with an indistinctly photogenic body and face. She was invited to join the casting of Class, a renowned modeling agency in São Paulo affiliated with American Ford Models. Within a short time, her schedule averaged twenty-five contracts per month, making her the most requested model in the country. Her career was consolidated in June 1989 when she defeated seven thousand other competitors to win first place in the Brazilian stage of the Supermodel of the World contest. In August of that year, she competed in the world final in Los Angeles and was among the ten finalists. This led to her inclusion on a list of the ten most successful models on the planet in 1989, as well as a list of the ten most beautiful women, following her classification in the contest.
At the end of 1989, with only two years of work, she was already elevated to the category of top model. Weeks before her death, in January 1990, she was scheduled to travel to Germany and had posed for four international magazines, two American and two Canadian. Tragically, Adriana died after ingesting a cocktail of drugs, alcohol, and tranquilizers with friends on a farm in the interior of Minas Gerais. Her death became one of the cases with the greatest media repercussion in Brazil involving drug use. She was only twenty years old. Her career, though brief, left a lasting mark on the modeling world.
